Sterling McCall Chevrolet can help you identify why your car skaes in idle.
As a driver, one of the most uneasy feelings is when you can feel your car vibrating while you’re driving. Is it a flat tire, did that pothole damage my car suspension, or did I break the driveshaft? There are several things that could be the culprit as to why your vehicle is shuddering, and the amount of the potential problems can vary greatly. The most probable cause of the shuddering most often happens in the vicinity of your tires and rims. They plant your vehicle to the road, and if anything is broken, you’re going to notice. More seriously, it could be something like a broken transmission or a broken control arm. These more major failures may leave you stranded on the side of the road.

If you got different tires recently, the car shuddering could be from the tires that we not balanced correctly. Balancing the tires makes sure the weight of the tires and wheels are evenly distributed for the most peaceful ride possible. So, if you feel the tire vibration when you are driving, it could be a tire that is no longer balanced. If you have confirmed that the new tires and wheels are properly balanced, but the car is still shaking, check to make sure the lugnuts are completely tightened, and make sure the tires are inflated to the proper air pressure. If you find that your tires are causing the shake, you should get it checked out immediately.
If the vehicle shudders when braking, that’s a pretty obvious gauge that you might want to have the brakes looked at. The most likely reason for your steering wheel shake is warped brake rotors. When a driver pushes down on the brake pedal, pieces of metal called brake pads squeeze the brake rotors to stop your car. A smooth surface provides smooth braking. A warped brake rotor surface will cause vibrations when braking, sort of like how a brick road feels bumpier than a highway. Other potential causes of the vibrating include frozen calipers or damaged suspension components. If you feel your steering wheel wobble, bring it to us, and we’ll check it out.
If a vehicle is vibrating before you ever start driving, then there’s a chance that you have some broken car parts. The most obvious causes of a car shaking in idle are:
The Driveshaft has Broken – If damaged or not perfectly balanced, it could cause shudders
Worn CV joints – Working in conjunction with the drive shaft, cv joints get the power from the engine to the wheels and tires and, if they are failing, can be the source of the vehicle shaking in idle.
Failed Engine Mounts – As the name indicates, these components help mount the engine to the car. If they get broken or worn, it can make the engine move around.
