Double Cab vs Crew Cab Trucks

double cab vs crew cab trucks

What is a double cab vs crew cab trucks?

These days pickups are everywhere. Long gone are the days where pickups were vehicles that were only made for work and utility. Today’s pickup trucks can be outfitted to be as luxurious as the most iconic brands from Germany. There is a pickup out there for you, no matter if you require a workhorse or want to cruise in style. Once you decide if you must have 4WD (or if RWD will do), the next big decision is to decide what cab type is best for you.

What is a Regular Cab?

What makes a truck a Regular Cab?

As you might guess, a regular cab truck has only one row of seats with very limited legroom and storage space. A regular cab pickup was once the only way to purchase pickups. In many regular cabs, the seatbacks practically touch the back side part of the cab. This style is the “work” version of a pickup and can usually be ordered with manual windows and locks. A regular cab is made to work, not to haul your family and friends around.

Is an Extended Cab pickup right for me?

What makes a pickup an Extended Cab?

As you might expect, an Extended Cab pickup (occasionally called a Double Cab ) is basically just a Regular Cab with more room behind the front seating. When it was first introduced, extended cab pickups were just sold as 2-door models and only had small jump seats behind the front row. Sometimes known as a Double Cab pickup, these trucks now come with a second row of small doors for easy access to the rear cargo area. Even though there are 2 rows of seats, an Extended Cab pickup truck would not be the best vehicle for road trips, even if it can haul more people.

What makes a pickup a Crew Cab?

Is a Crew Cab right for me?

While not as clear as the earlier types, a Crew Cab truck features 4 normal-size doors and the space to hold your ‘crew.’ Crew Cab pickup trucks are made to haul more of your stuff and people. In some circles, these pickups have replaced the sedan as the family vehicle. A Crew Cab pickup truck’s powerful engines and larger size are unavailable in the 4-door sedan market while still providing the luxuries and legroom that families need.
